The Kraken Wakes

The Aethernaut

I’ve always been fascinated by the mysteries of the deep and the idea that just about anything might be lurking down there among the hydrothermal vents. Would I dare to explore in one of those tiny submersibles, watching the colour of the water deepen and finally blacken as we sink further away from the light? Imagine the ominous creakings of the vessel, how you would notice every tiny shudder and jolt. How deliciously terrifying! Add to that my love of vintage sci-fi and in particular John Wyndhams’  The Kraken Wakes, and it was inevitable that I’d make something like this.

The Kraken Wakes features a beautifully patinated brass octopus dripping with ocean coloured glass beads, plus three salvaged chandelier crystals. I like to think that the anonymous creatures in John Wyndhams novel were elegant alien cephalopods. We know it’s possible for them to live at such pressures – and by golly they are clever – so it all fits, don’t you think?

The Kraken Wakes comes in a black velvet pouch ready for gift giving and is absolutely unique.
