Are you a friend of Dorothy?
What’s my favourite film of all time? It’s hard to say for sure but The Wizard Of Oz must come pretty hight on the list. Not just for the sumptuous Technicolor, the song and dance sequences and unique visual style but for the sheer mischief of it. Here is a film that claims it’s central motif to be as follows; “There’s no place like home”. Hmmmm. Then why does it subvert that message at every turn? This story is actually about discovering yourself through adventure, learning self reliance and the importance of friendship, testing your mettle and the importance of courage. Plus, it tells you that you don’t need to go to some guy with a funny hat and obtain a medal or certificate to prove yourself worthy. You already are.
