It’s time to introduce a new theme into the shop – Under The Sea! So if you have a passion for poisson, are moved by mermaids or feel tempted by tentacles you simply must come and have a look.

I’m anticipating this theme will be very popular, so if you see a one of a kind beauty here and you simply can’t live without it, do not hesitate as I cannot recreate them exactly. I’ve always been fascinated by the mysteries of the deep and the idea that just about anything might be lurking down there among the hydrothermal vents. Would I dare to explore in one of those tiny submersibles, watching the colour of the water deepen and finally blacken as we sink further away from the light? Imagine the ominous creakings of the vessel, how you would notice every tiny shudder and jolt. How deliciously terrifying! Add to that my love of vintage sci-fi and in particular John Wyndhams’  The Kraken Wakes, and it was inevitable that I’d make something like this.

The Kraken Wakes features a beautifully patinated brass octopus dripping with ocean coloured glass beads, plus three salvaged chandelier crystals. I like to think that the anonymous creatures in John Wyndhams novel were elegant alien cephalopods. We know it’s possible for them to live at such pressures – and by golly they are clever – so it all fits, don’t you think?

The Kraken Wakes comes in a black velvet pouch ready for gift giving and is absolutely unique.

What’s my favourite film of all time? It’s hard to say for sure but The Wizard Of Oz must come pretty hight on the list. Not just for the sumptuous Technicolor, the song and dance sequences and unique visual style but for the sheer mischief of it. Here is a film that claims it’s central motif to be as follows; “There’s no place like home”. Hmmmm. Then why does it subvert that message at every turn? This story is actually about discovering yourself through adventure, learning self reliance and the importance of friendship, testing your mettle and the importance of courage. Plus, it tells you that you don’t need to go to some guy with a funny hat and obtain a medal or certificate to prove yourself worthy. You already are.
